After the disasters in Louisiana this weekend, where the Republicans lost what was suppose to be a safe seat, their attention has gone to the 1st District in Mississippi. How scared are Republicans of losing the MS-01 seat? This scared -
Cheney to stump for Davis
Vice President Dick Cheney will stump for Republican Greg Davis at a Southaven rally next Monday, one day before the special election to fill the seat once held by Roger Wicker, the White House confirmed this morning.
When they have to send Satan Cheney out to scare people into voting for the Republican, then you know they are in trouble.
The Commercial Appeal in Memphis (the MS-01 district is just south of Memphis) wrote a stinging article about the Republicans' playing the race card in this run-off election, especially after the Democrat Travis Childers nearly won the majority in the first vote. Even Republicans are getting turned off on how negative Davis and the Republican Party has gotten.
One of those prominent Republicans, Tupelo department store owner Jack Reed Sr., the GOP candidate for governor in 1987, said Davis has simply gone "too far."
"The ads from both the national Democratic and Republican parties are not helpful to Mississippi and not helpful to either candidate," said Reed, 84. "But I think one candidate has been more extreme in this, and I feel very keenly about it." He said that candidate was Davis.
We'll see if Cheney helps Davis out any, or it anything, probably sends more votes to Childers.
